Skate Park for Elizabethtown KY
Skate Park Dream Escaping Elizabethtown KY
Despite more than a decade of dialoguing with the Elizabethtown City Council, citizens of Elizabethtown KY supporting a free skating park are feeling the frustration at not having their voices heard. While the Elizabethtown KY City Council continues to support, fund and plan additional baseball fields, soccer fields, and football fields – where is the equal time, where is the equal funding, where is the equitable treatment – they have failed to positively act on the numerous requests for a skate park.
While the Elizabethtown City Council continually support and fund additional recreational parks and programs, they deny the efforts of a skate park often citing lack of funds and space and concerns for liability insurance premiums. Supporters for the Elizabethtown skate park state their own support for additional parks, fields and recreational facilities in the Elizabethtown KY area; they only ask for a small share of space, funds, and resources to expand the diversity of the Elizabethtown area’s recreational offerings.
Denial of Definition?
Many Elizabethtown KY citizens need to ask themselves, “what is a sport?” For example, I personally do not like NASCAR, but I recognize it as a sport; I couldn’t hold up to the ability and agility necessary to drive a car in excruciating heat under extreme conditions. Maybe you never considered cheerleaders members of a sport … until there was one in your family. Elizabethtown KY embraces many recreational and sporting activities, mainly those defined as a “sport”. Freeman Lake has an awesome Frisbee golf course; and maybe you personally don’t consider that a sport, but give it a try and you will feel the workout. So is it a mere denial of defining skating as a sport? Is there a skating stereotype that needs to be overcome?
Skating Deserves Equal Time
Regardless of the answers to the previous questions, an Elizabethtown KY Skating Park deserves a decision and support. We love our historical heritage, but let us not keep our mindsets in the past. The popularity of skating, especially skateboarding, is exponentially increasing with enthusiastically, energetic and eager participants looking for an outlet for their sport and exercise.
No problem, Louisville KY is a short drive away from Elizabehtown – while you are up there, you might as well do your shopping, eat out, and spend your money where you’re spending your recreational, entertaining and sporting dollars anyway …
Politicians are Public Servants
Maybe it is time to remind the Elizabethtown KY City Council members who it is for whom they work – the public, not a few political supporters. The citizens for an Elizabethtown KY area skate park are growing in supporters everyday, as especially witnessed in their newest Etown Skatepark on Facebook, but what they lack is an objective audience with the members of the Elizabethtown City Council; you can help!
